When traveling in Japan, one of the best places to shop for souvenirs is a Michi-no-Eki (Roadside Station). These roadside facilities are filled with local specialties and often feature casual dining options and restaurants, making them popular stops for travelers.
In this article, we’ll introduce the Michi-no-Eki found in the southern area of Yamanashi Prefecture, specifically in Hayakawa Town, Minobu Town, Nanbu Town, Fujikawa Town, and Ichikawamisato Town.
The southern region of Yamanashi is where you can experience a more traditional side of the prefecture. It is known for its heritage crafts and as one of the leading agricultural areas in the region, offering a chance to connect with the authentic culture of Yamanashi.

Let’s take a closer look at the Roadside Stations in the Southern Area!

Michi-no-Eki Shimobe

At Michi-no-Eki Shimobe, you can enjoy colorful and creative dishes made with wild vegetables foraged and game hunted directly by the chef. The meals here are not only delicious but also filled with a sense of humor and originality.
This roadside station is also home to the “Michi-no-Eki Shimobe Auto Campground ~Yuru Camp△ Village~”, a special collaboration with the popular Japanese anime Yuru Camp△. Fans will love exploring the anime-themed campsite and browsing the exclusive merchandise available here.
Next door, the Shimobe Rural Culture Park offers hands-on experiences such as pottery workshops, along with a traditional tatami-floored rest area, making it a versatile stop for visitors.
