Chiffon Fuji “Fuji-Fon”

For those who love sweets, the Fuji-Fon is a must-try souvenir. Shaped like Mt. Fuji itself, this delightful chiffon cake perfectly represents Yamanashi.

In fact, it won the Fuji Prize at the Japan Gift Awards in 2015, solidifying its reputation as one of the region’s most iconic souvenirs. The name “Fuji-Fon” comes from a combination of “Fuji” + “chiffon cake,” with a soft and charming touch.

Each cake is handmade with care, focusing on quality ingredients, texture, and flavor. The eggs used come from Oshino, an area renowned for its pure spring water from Mt. Fuji. Known for their freshness and rich taste, these local eggs elevate the cake’s flavor.

With no additives, the cake is light, moist, and delicately sweet. It’s also versatile—you can enjoy it plain, or serve it with fresh fruit and whipped cream for an extra indulgence.

Another highlight of Fuji-Fon is its wide variety of sizes, from small personal cakes to large ones perfect for sharing with a big family. This makes it a wonderful choice both as a personal treat and as a thoughtful gift.

Although the shelf life is short (about five days), its soft and fluffy texture is absolutely worth experiencing.

Founded in 1911 (Meiji 44), Fuji Kasho Kindaruma is a historic Japanese confectionery shop that has even been honored to present its sweets to the Emperor and the Emperor Emeritus.

All of their products are made using snowmelt water from Mt. Fuji, giving them a clear and refined taste. The shop is known for its beautifully crafted Japanese sweets shaped to resemble Mt. Fuji, and among them, its yokan (sweet bean jelly) is especially popular.

The standout item is the limited-edition “Fuji no Nishiki”, a yokan that expresses the beauty of Japan’s four seasons in a single bar. Each section represents a different season and flavor:

  • Spring – Sakura (cherry blossom)
  • Summer – Matcha (green tea)
  • Autumn – Persimmon
  • Winter – Brown sugar

With a shelf life of 30 days at room temperature, this sweet allows you to savor the flavors of Japan’s seasons slowly over time, making it both practical and memorable as a gift.

One of the most popular souvenirs for sharing with friends, family, or coworkers is the Fujiyama Cookie. Designed in the shape of Mt. Fuji, these cookies are available in a variety of options—from individually wrapped treats to beautifully packaged gift sets.

There are five flavors to choose from: Vanilla, Chocolate, Matcha, Strawberry, and Black Tea. Some varieties are topped with walnuts or almonds, adding a crunchy accent to the flavor.

While smaller packs of 3 or 5 cookies are available, the top recommendation is the “All Cookies” 15-piece set, which includes every flavor so you can enjoy the full Fujiyama Cookie experience.

With a shelf life of 60 days, these cookies are practical for travel and make excellent gifts. Just be careful when carrying them home, as cookies can be fragile.
