Cherry blossoms, known as the symbolic flower of Japan, hold a special place in the hearts of Japanese people.
Blooming only for a short period each spring, sakura represent the fleeting beauty of Japan’s four seasons, drawing countless admirers from around the world.
In the Kanto region, they typically bloom from mid-March to mid-April, enchanting visitors with their breathtaking beauty year after year.
Among the best places to enjoy cherry blossoms, Yamanashi Prefecture stands out for offering stunning views that combine sakura with Mt. Fuji and the surrounding lakes.
In this article, we’ve selected 10 must-visit spots around Lake Kawaguchiko, one of the most popular of the Fuji Five Lakes, where you can admire cherry blossoms with magnificent views of Mt. Fuji.
For 2025, the cherry blossom forecast for Yamanashi is:
- Estimated blooming date: March 26
- Full bloom forecast: April 1 (announced March 29, 2025)
Plan your spring trip around these dates, and enjoy sightseeing along with the spectacular sakura season.

Arakurayama Sengen Park

Located on the eastern side of Lake Kawaguchiko, Arakurayama Sengen Park is widely regarded as the most iconic cherry blossom spot in Yamanashi Prefecture, offering one of the best views of Mt. Fuji.
This scenic location is famous for its breathtaking combination of cherry blossoms, Mt. Fuji, and the five-storied pagoda, making it one of Japan’s most photographed landscapes. Every year from April 1 to April 18, the Arakurayama Sengen Park Cherry Blossom Festival takes place, attracting countless visitors.
From the observation deck at the top of the 398-step staircase, you can enjoy panoramic views of Mt. Fuji along with the historic cityscape of Fujiyoshida.

Bonus Spot: Nishiura in Fujiyoshida
After visiting Arakurayama Sengen Park, head over to Nishiura, a retro nightlife district beloved for its nostalgic Showa-era atmosphere.
The streets of Nishiura have appeared as filming locations for Japanese dramas and movies such as The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and Always: Sunset on Third Street ’64. With izakaya pubs and bars open late into the night, it feels like stepping back in time to Japan’s postwar decades.

Fuji Kawaguchiko Sakura Festival

One of the highlights of spring at Lake Kawaguchiko is the Fuji Kawaguchiko Sakura Festival, where around 200 Somei Yoshino cherry trees bloom in full glory along the northern shore, near the Kawaguchiko Enkei Hall—all set against the majestic backdrop of Mt. Fuji.
The main festival venue is located close to the Momiji Corridor (famous in autumn for the Fuji Kawaguchiko Autumn Leaves Festival) and Kawaguchi Asama Shrine.

During the festival period, visitors can enjoy a lively craft market and numerous food stalls. Seasonal treats unique to Yamanashi, such as fresh peach smoothies and cherry blossom–themed items, make strolling through the festival even more enjoyable.
The 15th Fuji Kawaguchiko Sakura Festival will be held in 2025, from April 1 to April 13. Don’t miss the chance to experience this spectacular view of Mt. Fuji framed by cherry blossoms!

Oishi Park

Situated on the northern shore of Lake Kawaguchiko, Oishi Park is a popular sightseeing spot where visitors flock each year to admire the breathtaking view of Mt. Fuji alongside the lake.
In spring, the park bursts into color with pink, yellow, and white blossoms. Visitors are welcomed by around 20 varieties of flowers, including the main highlight—cherry blossoms—as well as tulips, rapeseed blossoms, and moss phlox.

Did You Know? Moss Phlox Is Not a Type of Cherry Blossom
Many people assume moss phlox is related to cherry blossoms, but in fact, it’s not. While cherry blossoms belong to the rose family, moss phlox is a perennial from the polemonium family. Its petals resemble sakura, which is why it’s called “shibazakura” in Japanese.
The charm of moss phlox lies in its ability to bloom in dense clusters, creating the appearance of a flower carpet. Colors range from red and pink to pale blue, forming stunning natural gradients.
If you want to enjoy moss phlox in full glory, the best place to go is the Fuji Shibazakura Festival, held near Lake Motosuko from late April to late May each year. With around 500,000 plants, it’s one of the largest moss phlox displays in the Tokyo metropolitan area, spreading across vast grounds in a spectacular contrast of colors.
The 2025 Fuji Shibazakura Festival will be held from April 12 to May 25. 👉 For more details, click here!
Nagasaki Park

Located on the northern shore of Lake Kawaguchiko, Nagasaki Park juts out into the lake, making it one of the few places where you can photograph Mt. Fuji’s wide base together with cherry blossoms.
The scenery here looks like a painting, combining the grandeur of nature with the delicate beauty of sakura. On a lucky day, you may even capture the stunning reflection of “Sakasa Fuji” (upside-down Mt. Fuji) on the lake’s surface, framed by cherry blossoms.
Still relatively unknown, this hidden gem offers a peaceful atmosphere, allowing visitors to enjoy the breathtaking view in a quiet setting away from the crowds.
Yagisaki Park

Located on the southern shore of Lake Kawaguchiko, Yagisaki Park offers sweeping views of the lake and is also a popular spot for birdwatching.
While the park is best known as the venue for the Herb Festival in June, when the grounds are covered in lavender, it is also a beautiful destination for cherry blossom viewing.
Strolling beneath the rows of sakura trees while gazing at Mt. Fuji is a highlight here, and the park is especially popular among families with dogs. When the wind blows, the falling petals create a mesmerizing “sakura snowstorm”, a scene so magical it feels like stepping into the pages of a fairytale.
Shikkogo Park

Located on the southern shore of Lake Kawaguchiko, Shikkogo Park is known for its spacious grassy field, making it an excellent spot for picnics and hanami (cherry blossom viewing).
When the sakura reach full bloom, about 300 meters of cherry trees stretch from the lawn area to the parking lot, creating a stunning pink-lined path perfect for spring strolls.
Every April, the park becomes the stage for the Yabusame Festival, a traditional horseback archery ritual with over 900 years of history. Watching archers dressed as samurai warriors shoot arrows from galloping horses feels like stepping back into Japan’s Sengoku period.

In 2025, the Yabusame Festival will be held on April 29. Be sure to include it in your spring trip itinerary along with nearby sightseeing spots.

Fuji Omuro Sengen Shrine

Recognized as the oldest shrine dedicated to Mt. Fuji, Fuji Omuro Sengen Shrine is registered as one of the cultural assets that make up the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage of Mt. Fuji. Historically, it also served as a place of prayer for the Takeda clan and other feudal warlords, making it a deeply significant spiritual site.
Originally located at the second station of Mt. Fuji, the shrine is believed to radiate strong spiritual energy, making it a popular power spot said to bring good fortune and financial blessings.
In spring, visitors can enjoy around 200 blooming cherry trees, including Somei Yoshino, within the shrine grounds. Since it is located near Shikkogo Park, both spots can easily be visited together.
The sight of the massive torii gate framed by rows of cherry blossoms is particularly spectacular, with the vibrant blossoms captivating all who visit.

Fuji View Hotel

With an expansive garden spanning 30,000 tsubo (about 99,000 m²), the Fuji View Hotel offers beautiful seasonal scenery throughout the year. In spring, more than 300 cherry trees burst into bloom, creating a breathtaking landscape.
Among the highlights are the graceful weeping cherry trees, their branches cascading toward the ground as if showering visitors with blossoms, all framed by the majestic backdrop of Mt. Fuji.
The garden is open for anyone to stroll through, even without staying at the hotel. However, if you want to fully immerse yourself in the beauty of the blossoms, booking an overnight stay is highly recommended.
Guests can also enjoy a panoramic bath with views of Mt. Fuji, as well as rooms with balconies overlooking the garden—making it the perfect accommodation to combine with a cherry blossom sightseeing trip.

While famous as a sightseeing destination, Oshino Hakkai is also a hidden gem for cherry blossom viewing. Visitors can admire arching rows of sakura with Mt. Fuji as a backdrop, creating postcard-perfect scenery.
The reflections of cherry trees in the transparent ponds, petals floating gently on the water’s surface, and the magical atmosphere of illuminated night cherry blossoms make this spot truly unique.
With plenty of street food stalls nearby, you can enjoy delicious local snacks while experiencing Japan’s cherry blossom beauty from morning to night.

Omiyabashi Bridge (Shinnashogawa River Cherry Blossom Row)

For those exploring Oshino Hakkai in spring, Omiyabashi Bridge is a hidden gem worth adding to your itinerary.
Along the banks of the Shinnashogawa River, about 400 meters of Somei Yoshino cherry trees bloom in spectacular fashion. Omiyabashi is especially popular as a photo spot, offering a stunning view of both Mt. Fuji and cherry blossoms together.
Since it is located a little away from the central area of Oshino Hakkai, this spot is ideal for travelers who prefer a quiet, peaceful atmosphere to fully enjoy the beauty of sakura.
